About the course
What this course covers
ITIL 4 Strategist: Direct, Plan and Improve (DPI) is for leaders who need to steer an organisation's services and improvement agenda. It explains how to set direction, plan work, govern risk, measure results and improve continually, so that IT supports business strategy rather than just keeping systems running.
The course covers the scope of direction, planning and improvement, creating a vision, governing with clear accountability, managing risk and compliance, and building a continual improvement culture. You will learn practical techniques for strategy and portfolio management, organisational change management, measurement and reporting, and how to use ITIL practices such as continual improvement, risk management and relationship management to align IT with business goals.
DPI is a core module for both the ITIL 4 Managing Professional and Strategic Leader designations and requires the Foundation certificate. PeopleCert introduced ITIL (Version 5) in February 2026 while keeping ITIL 4 qualifications available as it transitions; confirm timelines on peoplecert.org.
