About the course
What this course covers
Test-driven development (TDD) is a programming practice popularised by Kent Beck as part of Extreme Programming. You write a small failing test, write just enough code to pass it and then refactor to improve the design while the tests keep you safe. Repeated in short cycles, it produces a growing suite of tests and code that is easier to change.
This course is hands-on. You learn the red-green-refactor rhythm, practise it on coding katas and then apply it to more realistic problems. Topics include writing good unit tests, naming and structure, test doubles such as stubs, mocks and fakes, designing for testability, testing legacy code safely, and refactoring patterns that remove duplication and code smells. You also look at how TDD sits with continuous integration, pair programming and BDD, and common reasons teams struggle with it.
There is no external exam. You code in class and receive a course completion certificate from the training provider. The programming language and test framework (such as JUnit, pytest, NUnit or Jest) depend on the batch.
Who should attend
- ● Software developers who want to write better-tested code
- ● Test automation engineers who work close to code
- ● Technical leads and architects
- ● Developers moving to agile or XP environments
- ● Students and early-career engineers
Prerequisites
- ● Working programming knowledge in one language (Java, Python, C# or JavaScript)
Key skills
Skills you will walk away with
Red-green-refactor
Work in tiny cycles of failing test, passing code and cleanup.
Writing good unit tests
Create fast, focused, readable tests that fail for one reason.
Test doubles
Use stubs, mocks and fakes to isolate code from dependencies.
Designing for testability
Write small units with clear responsibilities and injected dependencies.
Refactoring
Remove duplication and code smells using safe, small steps.
Coding katas
Practise TDD on problems such as string calculators and bowling scores.

FAQs
Questions learners ask us
Q.Is there an exam?
No. It is a skills course with a completion certificate from the training provider.
Q.Which language will we use?
This depends on the batch, commonly Java, Python, C# or JavaScript. Confirm before enrolling.
Q.Do I need strong coding skills?
You need working knowledge of one language and an IDE. You do not need advanced experience.
Q.Is TDD slower?
It can feel slower at first, but teams usually save time by finding defects early and refactoring safely. The course discusses trade-offs honestly.
Q.Can testers join?
Test engineers who write code can join. Non-coding testers may prefer the BDD or Agile Testing courses.
Q.How does TDD relate to BDD?
TDD works at unit level and is driven by developers. BDD works at feature level and involves the business. They complement each other.
