About the course
What this course covers
Modern applications rarely use a single database for everything. AWS offers purpose-built databases, and good design means matching each workload to the right engine. Planning and Designing Databases on AWS teaches how to gather requirements, evaluate options and design for scale, availability and cost.
The course covers Amazon RDS and Aurora for relational workloads, DynamoDB for key-value and document data, ElastiCache and MemoryDB for caching and in-memory use, DocumentDB, Neptune for graph data, Timestream for time series and Keyspaces for Cassandra-compatible workloads. For each, you learn data modelling, consistency, scaling, backup and security. We then discuss migration with DMS and the Schema Conversion Tool and operational monitoring.
There is no exam in the course. The older AWS Database - Specialty exam has been retired, so learners who want a credential usually pursue Solutions Architect or Data Engineer certifications, booked separately with AWS. Delivery is live, instructor-led and online.
Who should attend
- ● Database administrators and developers moving to AWS
- ● Solutions architects who choose data stores for applications
- ● Backend engineers designing microservice data layers
- ● Data engineers who need to understand source databases
- ● Migration engineers moving on-premises databases to the cloud
Prerequisites
- Solid SQL and relational database fundamentals
Key skills
Skills you will walk away with
Workload analysis
Gather access patterns, consistency needs and scale to pick a database type.
Relational design on RDS and Aurora
Configure Multi-AZ, read replicas, parameter groups and Aurora cluster features.
DynamoDB modelling
Design partition and sort keys, indexes and single-table access patterns.
Caching and in-memory data
Use ElastiCache and MemoryDB to cut latency and database load.
Specialised engines
Recognise when to use Neptune, DocumentDB, Timestream or Keyspaces.
High availability and DR
Plan backups, point-in-time recovery, Aurora Global Database and DynamoDB global tables.

FAQs
Questions learners ask us
Q.Is there an AWS Database certification I can take after this?
AWS retired its Database - Specialty exam. For credentials, many learners choose Solutions Architect Associate or Data Engineer Associate; check the AWS Certification site for current options.
Q.Do I need DBA experience?
Basic database knowledge and SQL are needed. Prior DBA experience helps but is not required.
Q.Will we write SQL?
Yes, for relational labs. For DynamoDB we use console and SDK examples.
Q.Which cloud do labs use?
AWS only.
Q.Can application developers join?
Yes. Understanding data design is very valuable for backend developers.
Q.Is there any exam?
No. Completion is certified by Assure Success.
