About the course
What this course covers
The Program Management Professional (PgMP) is PMI's advanced credential for people who manage programs, which are groups of related projects and activities coordinated to deliver benefits that individual projects cannot. Unlike the PMP, the PgMP assessment has more than one stage: PMI first reviews your application and experience, and a panel review then follows before you sit the multiple-choice exam.
This course helps experienced project and program managers organise their knowledge for that process. We cover strategic program management, the program life cycle, benefits management, stakeholder management and governance, using The Standard for Program Management as the reference point and practical case work.
Because eligibility depends heavily on your own documented program experience, the course is not a substitute for it. We help you understand the evidence PMI looks for and how to present it, but PMI alone decides on your application and panel review.

FAQs
Questions learners ask us
Q.How is the PgMP different from the PMP?
The PMP is for people who lead projects. The PgMP is for people who manage programs, which coordinate related projects for strategic benefit, and it has an additional panel review stage before the exam.
Q.Who can apply?
PMI requires significant program management experience plus project management experience, with different amounts depending on your degree. Check the current requirements on pmi.org before applying.
Q.Does this course meet a mandatory training-hour requirement?
The course builds the knowledge and the way of thinking PMI assesses. Training-hour rules are set by PMI and can change, so check the current PgMP handbook on pmi.org.
Q.What is the panel review?
PMI reviews your program experience through a panel before you take the exam. The course explains how to describe your experience, but the decision rests with PMI.
Q.How much does it cost?
PMI sets the application, exam and renewal fees, with different amounts for members and non-members. See the current figures on pmi.org.
Q.Can I take the exam online?
Check PMI's current PgMP page for available delivery modes; many PMI exams are available at Pearson VUE centres and online proctored.
