About the course
What this course covers
The Portfolio Management Professional (PfMP) is PMI's credential for portfolio managers and senior executives who decide which programs and projects an organisation should fund, pause or stop. A portfolio is a collection of projects, programs and operations managed together to achieve strategic objectives, so the PfMP focuses on investment choices and value rather than delivery detail.
This course covers the core ideas in PMI's portfolio standard: strategic alignment, governance, portfolio performance, portfolio risk and communications. You will work through scenarios on scoring and ranking components, balancing the portfolio against capacity, and responding when strategy shifts.
Like the PgMP, the PfMP involves a multi-stage process that includes application review and a panel review before the exam. PMI alone makes those decisions; the course helps you prepare your evidence and sharpen the thinking behind it.

FAQs
Questions learners ask us
Q.Who is the PfMP for?
It is for portfolio managers and senior leaders who decide which programs and projects an organisation should invest in, rather than for day-to-day project managers.
Q.How is it different from the PgMP?
The PgMP focuses on managing a program of related projects. The PfMP focuses on selecting and balancing the full set of programs, projects and operations that an organisation funds.
Q.What is the eligibility requirement?
PMI requires significant portfolio management experience along with professional experience, with different amounts depending on your degree. See the current rules on pmi.org.
Q.Is there a panel review?
Yes. PMI reviews your portfolio experience through a panel before you can take the exam.
Q.How many questions and how long is the exam?
See the current figure on pmi.org for the exam's question count and duration, since PMI revises exams periodically.
Q.How much does it cost?
Fees are set by PMI and differ for members and non-members. See the current figures on pmi.org.
