About the course
What this course covers
The Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) is the security standard that applies to any organisation that stores, processes or transmits payment card data. Compliance is required by card brands and acquirers, and a failure can lead to fines, higher transaction costs or loss of the ability to take card payments.
This 16-hour live course explains PCI DSS v4.0.1: its goals, roles in the payment ecosystem and the twelve principal requirements. You learn how to scope the cardholder data environment, reduce scope through segmentation and tokenisation, choose between the defined and customised approaches, and prepare evidence for assessment.
Participants practise mapping real card data flows, identifying applicable requirements for different merchant and service-provider levels, filling in a Self-Assessment Questionnaire and understanding the structure of a Report on Compliance. The course gives a practical foundation for compliance teams, IT and security staff, and those planning to pursue PCI SSC professional qualifications.

FAQs
Questions learners ask us
Q.Is there a PCI DSS exam at the end of this course?
This is a knowledge and implementation course with no external exam. The PCI Security Standards Council offers its own professional qualifications, such as Internal Security Assessor and PCI Professional, for those who want a formal credential.
Q.Which version of PCI DSS do you teach?
Version 4.0.1, the current version, including the future-dated requirements that became mandatory on 31 March 2025.
Q.Is PCI DSS a law?
No. It is an industry standard enforced through contracts with acquirers and card brands, though non-compliance has real financial consequences.
Q.Does this course suit small merchants?
Yes. We explain which SAQ applies to different setups and how outsourcing to compliant providers reduces scope.
Q.Do I need a technical background?
Basic IT understanding is enough. Technical requirements are explained with examples for compliance and non-technical learners.
Q.How is PCI DSS different from ISO 27001?
ISO 27001 is a management system for all information security, while PCI DSS is a prescriptive standard focused on card data. Both can be run together.
