About the course
What this course covers
OpenStack is an open-source platform for building private and hybrid clouds on your own hardware. It provides compute, networking and storage as services that users request through a dashboard, command line or API. Telecom operators, research institutions, government bodies and some enterprises use it to run their own cloud.
This course gives you a working understanding of OpenStack from the user and operator perspective. You learn how its services fit together: Keystone for identity, Nova for compute, Glance for images, Neutron for networking, Cinder for block storage, Swift for object storage, Horizon for the dashboard and Heat for orchestration. In labs you create projects and users, upload images, launch instances, build networks and routers, assign floating IPs, attach volumes and snapshot instances. You then look at how clouds are installed and maintained, how to monitor and troubleshoot with logs and the command line, and how OpenStack compares with public clouds.
There is no exam inside the course. The Open Infrastructure Foundation has offered a Certified OpenStack Administrator (COA) exam; because its availability and price may change, please check openstack.org directly. Delivery is live, instructor-led and online.
Who should attend

FAQs
Questions learners ask us
Q.Is OpenStack still relevant?
Yes, in private-cloud, telecom, research and some enterprise settings. It is less common in startups that use public clouds directly.
Q.Is there an exam in this course?
No. The Open Infrastructure Foundation has offered the COA exam, but you should check openstack.org for its current availability, price and format.
Q.Do I need powerful hardware?
An all-in-one lab needs a decent machine or a cloud VM with enough RAM. We share the requirements before the batch starts.
Q.Will we install OpenStack from scratch?
We use a prepared lab environment for most work and discuss deployment methods, because a full production install takes a long time.
Q.Is networking knowledge essential?
Yes. Neutron is the hardest part, and basic networking knowledge makes the course far easier.
Q.How does it compare with AWS or Azure?
The concepts of instances, networks, volumes and identity map closely. OpenStack gives more visibility into how those services are built.
