About the course
What this course covers
Node.js lets you run JavaScript on the server, and it powers APIs at startups and large companies alike. This course takes you from how the runtime works to building a secure, tested and deployable REST service. You learn the event loop, asynchronous patterns, streams and file handling, then build with Express using TypeScript-friendly structure.
The course uses Node.js 24 LTS and the features that are now built in, such as the native fetch API, the built-in test runner, watch mode and ES modules. You connect your API to MongoDB and PostgreSQL, add JWT authentication, validate input, handle errors centrally and write tests. A final module covers Docker and deployment.
Node.js has no official certification exam. The course finishes with a deployed project you can show employers. You receive an Assure Success course-completion certificate on completion.
Who should attend
- ● Front-end developers who want to build their own back ends
- ● JavaScript developers moving into full-stack roles
- ● Java, PHP or .NET developers adding Node.js skills
- ● Graduates targeting back-end or API developer roles
- ● Freelancers who build web apps and integrations
Prerequisites
- ● Working knowledge of JavaScript: functions, objects, arrays and ES6 syntax
- Basic understanding of HTTP and web concepts is helpful
Key skills
Skills you will walk away with
Node.js runtime
Explain the event loop, non-blocking I/O, modules and worker threads.
Asynchronous programming
Use promises, async/await and streams to handle I/O without blocking.
Express API development
Define routes, middleware and controllers for REST services.
Database integration
Connect to MongoDB and PostgreSQL and run queries from Node.
Authentication and security
Hash passwords, issue JWTs and defend against common web attacks.
Validation and error handling
Validate requests with Zod and return consistent error responses.

FAQs
Questions learners ask us
Q.Is Node.js a language or a framework?
Neither. Node.js is a runtime that executes JavaScript outside the browser. Express is a framework that runs on top of it.
Q.Which Node.js version is taught?
Node.js 24 LTS, with notes on features that appear in newer releases so you can adapt.
Q.Do I need to know JavaScript already?
Yes. You should know core JavaScript syntax and basic async concepts. If not, consider the JavaScript course first.
Q.Is there a Node.js certification?
The OpenJS Foundation has run Node.js certifications in the past, but check the current status on their official site. Most employers rely on projects and interviews instead.
Q.Do you cover TypeScript?
Examples are structured so they can be moved to TypeScript, and the TypeScript course or the full-stack bootcamp covers it in depth.
Q.Will I learn Nest.js or Fastify?
The focus is Node and Express, the concepts every other framework builds on. Frameworks like NestJS and Fastify are mentioned for comparison.
Can I build real-time apps?
