About the course
What this course covers
The ISTQB Certified Tester Foundation Level (CTFL) is the most widely recognised entry credential in software testing. It gives you a common vocabulary and a structured way of thinking about test analysis, design, execution and reporting, whether you are a manual tester today or planning to move into automation later.
This course walks through the CTFL v4.0 syllabus chapter by chapter: fundamentals of testing, testing throughout the software development lifecycle, static testing, test analysis and design, managing test activities and test tools. Each concept is followed by exercises that mirror the style of the exam, so you practise applying techniques such as boundary value analysis and decision tables, not just memorising definitions.
The last sessions are given to timed mock papers and a review of weak areas. The credential itself is awarded by ISTQB through its national member boards and their exam providers; this course prepares you for it but does not replace sitting the official exam.

Test process and testware
Describe test planning, monitoring, analysis, design, implementation, execution and completion, and the work products each one produces.
Black-box test design
Apply equivalence partitioning, boundary value analysis, decision table and state transition testing to derive test cases from requirements.
White-box coverage
Calculate statement and branch coverage for a small piece of code and understand what each level of coverage does and does not prove.
Experience-based and collaboration-based testing
Use error guessing, exploratory testing and checklists, and write testable user stories and acceptance criteria with the team.

FAQs
Questions learners ask us
Q.Which syllabus version does the exam use?
The exam is based on the CTFL v4.0 syllabus, which replaced the older v3.1 syllabus. This course teaches v4.0 only, so you will not spend time on retired topics.
Q.How hard is the CTFL exam?
You need 26 of 40 points, and about eight questions are K3 application questions that ask you to actually apply a technique. Learners who practise the technique exercises and mock papers usually find it manageable, but it is not an exam you can pass by skimming.
Q.Do I need to know programming?
No. The only code-related topic is simple statement and branch coverage on a short pseudocode example, which we teach from scratch.
Q.Is ISTQB Foundation enough to get a testing job?
It improves your chances for fresher and junior QA roles and shows you know the vocabulary, but most employers also look for hands-on skills such as test design practice, SQL and basic automation. Many learners follow this with Selenium or automation training.
Q.Does the certificate expire?
No. ISTQB certificates are lifetime, so you do not need to renew CTFL.
Q.Can I take the exam in a language other than English?
The exam is available in several languages through different member boards. Ask your exam provider which languages and extra-time options apply to you.
