About the course
What this course covers
The ISTQB Certified Tester Advanced Level Test Management (CTAL-TM) credential is aimed at testers who are, or are about to become, responsible for a test team or a testing stream. It goes beyond writing test cases: you learn to define a test strategy, estimate effort, manage risk, monitor progress and make quality visible to project sponsors.
The course is built around case studies. You will take a fictional project, decide what to test and how much, build a plan and risk-based priorities, set metrics, and report status to different audiences. Sessions also cover test process improvement, managing distributed and agile teams, defect management at scale, and choosing and introducing tools.
The final days are spent on exam technique. The CTAL-TM exam uses long scenario questions at K2 to K4 level, so we practise reading them quickly and justifying answers. The credential is awarded by ISTQB through its national member boards; this course prepares you but does not guarantee a result.

FAQs
Questions learners ask us
Q.Can I take Test Manager without the Foundation certificate?
No. ISTQB requires a valid Foundation Level certificate before you can sit an Advanced Level exam, so get CTFL first.
Q.How much experience do I need?
ISTQB does not set a fixed number of years in the exam rules, but the questions are written for people who have worked in testing. Two or more years in a testing role makes the scenario questions much easier.
Q.Is this course only for people already managing teams?
No. Many learners are senior testers preparing for a lead role. The case studies teach the work from first principles.
Q.How is the exam different from Foundation?
It is longer (120 minutes), has 50 scenario-based questions and tests application and analysis, not recall. Time management matters.
Q.Do I need the Test Analyst or Technical Test Analyst modules too?
No. The Advanced modules are independent. Pick the one that matches your role; many managers add Test Analyst later.
Q.Will this help in agile teams?
Yes. The syllabus covers tailoring test management for agile contexts, and we discuss release readiness, metrics and quality coaching across agile teams.
