About the course
What this course covers
The ISTQB Certified Tester Advanced Level Test Analyst (CTAL-TA) credential recognises testers who design and execute high-quality tests from the business and functional side. It builds directly on the Foundation Level and takes test design much deeper, with more demanding applications and realistic constraints.
This course is technique-heavy. You will work through equivalence partitioning with boundary analysis, decision tables and cause-effect thinking, state transition models, combinatorial approaches such as pairwise testing and classification trees, use case and user story testing, and defect-based and experience-based methods. For each technique you build the model, derive tests, measure what is covered and decide when to stop.
We also cover how a test analyst contributes to risk analysis, reviews, test data, defect reporting and the testing of non-functional characteristics from a business viewpoint, such as usability and accessibility. The credential is awarded by ISTQB through its national boards; this course prepares you for the CTAL-TA v4.0 exam but does not replace it.

FAQs
Questions learners ask us
Q.Is a Foundation certificate mandatory?
Yes. ISTQB requires you to hold a valid Foundation Level certificate before sitting an Advanced Level exam.
Q.Which syllabus does the exam follow?
The current exam is built on the CTAL-TA v4.0 syllabus. The older v3.1 syllabus is being phased out, and we teach v4.0.
Q.Do I need to code?
No. Test Analyst is about functional and business-side test design. If you want white-box and code-level topics, look at the Technical Test Analyst course.
Q.How is it different from the Test Manager course?
Test Analyst focuses on designing and executing tests; Test Manager focuses on planning, leading and reporting. Many professionals take both.
Q.How long should I prepare?
The live course covers the full syllabus. Plan on a few extra weeks of practice questions and technique drills afterwards, especially if you have not applied the techniques daily.
Q.Is the exam harder than Foundation?
Yes. There are fewer but longer scenario questions at higher K-levels, so you must apply techniques, not recall definitions.
