About the course
What this course covers
The ISTQB Certified Tester Advanced Level Technical Test Analyst (CTAL-TTA) credential is for testers who work close to the code, architecture and non-functional behaviour of a system. Where the Test Analyst course starts from requirements, this one starts from the implementation: control flow, data flow, interfaces and technical risk.
The course teaches how to design tests that reach specific code structures, how to measure and interpret coverage, and when each structural technique is justified. You will also see how static analysis tools find defects without running code, and how dynamic analysis finds memory leaks, wild pointers and resource issues at run time. Sessions then move to technical quality characteristics such as security, reliability, performance efficiency, maintainability, portability and compatibility, and the test approaches suited to each.
The last part covers test automation considerations and exam practice. The credential is awarded through ISTQB national boards; this course prepares you for the CTAL-TTA v4.0 exam but does not replace it.
Who should attend
- ● Testers with programming knowledge who want to move into technical testing
- ● Developers and SDETs who want a formal credential in structural and non-functional testing
- ● Performance, security and reliability testers who want a structured framework
- ● Test leads who review unit testing, code coverage and static analysis practice
- ● Anyone completing the three-part ISTQB Advanced Level path
Key skills
Skills you will walk away with
Structural test design
Design tests for statement, decision, condition, modified condition/decision coverage and multiple condition coverage.
Control-flow and basis-path reasoning
Draw control-flow graphs and derive independent paths to understand code complexity.
API testing
Plan tests for interfaces and services, including input validation, error handling and contract behaviour.
Static analysis
Use static analysis and data-flow analysis to find defects such as unreachable code and uninitialised variables.
Dynamic analysis
Detect memory leaks, wild pointers and performance problems while the software runs.
Non-functional test planning

FAQs
Questions learners ask us
Q.Do I need to be a programmer?
You need to read simple code in a language such as Java, C or Python. You do not need to write production software, but you must be comfortable tracing logic and control flow.
Q.Is this the same as test automation training?
No. TTA covers technical test design, coverage, static and dynamic analysis and non-functional testing. It is not a tool course. For tools, see our Selenium and automation courses.
Q.Which syllabus version applies?
The exam is based on the CTAL-TTA v4.0 syllabus, which is what this course teaches.
Q.Is a Foundation certificate required?
Yes. ISTQB requires a valid Foundation Level certificate before you take an Advanced Level exam.
Q.Is MC/DC really on the exam?
Structural techniques including MC/DC are part of the syllabus and you should expect calculation-style questions, which is why we practise them repeatedly.
Q.Can I do Test Analyst and Technical Test Analyst together?
Yes, they are separate exams. Learners often take them one after the other, since test design concepts carry over.
