About the course
What this course covers
The Certified Professional for Requirements Engineering (CPRE) is an international qualification from the International Requirements Engineering Board (IREB). It is vendor-neutral and used across software, systems and product development, with particular recognition in Europe. The Foundation Level covers the principles and practices of requirements engineering that apply in traditional and agile settings.
The course follows the Foundation Level syllabus: what requirements engineering is and why it matters, how to define the system and its context, how to elicit requirements from stakeholders, how to document requirements in natural language and with models, how to validate and negotiate them, and how to manage requirements over time. Time is also given to tools, process tailoring and agile ways of working with requirements.
The exam is a multiple-choice paper conducted through IREB-certified exam bodies. Reported details for the Foundation Level are 45 questions, 75 minutes and a 70% pass mark, but exam arrangements are set by IREB and its exam bodies, so please confirm them when booking. Advanced Level modules exist for those who want to go further.
