About the course
What this course covers
The IFRS for SMEs Accounting Standard is a self-contained set of accounting requirements designed for entities without public accountability, about 250 pages instead of thousands. It keeps recognition and measurement simpler than full IFRS, reduces disclosures and is used or permitted in many countries for small and medium businesses, subsidiaries of multinationals and private companies.
This course walks through the standard's 35 sections: concepts and pervasive principles, presentation of financial statements, consolidation, financial instruments, inventories, investments, property, plant and equipment, intangibles and goodwill, business combinations, leases, provisions, liabilities and equity, revenue, employee benefits, income tax, foreign currency and more. You will prepare statements of financial position, comprehensive income, changes in equity and cash flows, and understand the main differences from full IFRS.
The IASB issued the third edition of the standard in 2025, aligning it with several full IFRS standards, with an effective date for annual periods beginning on or after 1 January 2027. The trainer will highlight these changes. In India, listed and larger companies apply Ind AS, so this course is most useful for foreign-owned subsidiaries, group reporting to overseas parents, advisers to SMEs abroad and finance professionals working with IFRS-based jurisdictions. It has no external exam.
