About the course
What this course covers
Apache HBase is a distributed, wide-column NoSQL database built on top of HDFS. It stores billions of rows with random, millisecond-scale reads and writes, which makes it a fit for time-series, messaging, user profile and audit-log style applications that outgrow a traditional database. Many Hadoop-based enterprise platforms in India still use HBase for operational data stores.
This course explains how HBase works and how to model data for it. You will study the architecture: how tables split into regions, how RegionServers handle reads and writes through the write-ahead log, MemStore and HFiles, and how the master and ZooKeeper coordinate. Because HBase performance depends almost entirely on row key design, a significant share of the course is spent on modelling patterns, hotspot avoidance and salting. You will practise with the shell and the Java client, use filters and scans, bulk-load data, and look at compaction, region management and snapshots. The final sessions cover Phoenix for SQL access and integration with Hive and Spark.
HBase has no vendor exam attached to this course. The program is built around lab work on a real cluster.

Q.Do I need Hadoop knowledge first?
