About the course
What this course covers
Apache Hadoop introduced the idea of storing huge datasets across commodity machines and moving computation to the data. Even though many new projects now use cloud object storage and lakehouse platforms, the core ideas of HDFS, YARN, partitioned data and distributed execution sit under almost every modern data platform, and many Indian enterprises still run Hadoop clusters in production.
This course teaches Hadoop as it is used today. You will learn how HDFS stores and replicates blocks, how YARN schedules containers, how a MapReduce job executes, and how Hive turns SQL into distributed jobs over partitioned and bucketed tables in formats such as Parquet and ORC. You will also see where HBase fits for low-latency access, how Spark runs on YARN, and how data gets in through ingestion tools.
There is no single vendor exam attached to this course; the major vendor Hadoop certification programmes have been retired or reorganised over the years, so we focus on skills you can demonstrate. A final section compares Hadoop with cloud-native alternatives so you know when each is appropriate.
Who should attend
- ● Software developers and database professionals moving into data engineering
- ● Data warehouse and ETL engineers who work with growing data volumes
- ● System administrators who want to understand big data platforms
- ● Analysts who need to query very large datasets using Hive and SQL
- ● Graduates targeting big data and data engineering roles
Prerequisites
Key skills
Skills you will walk away with
HDFS architecture
Explain NameNode, DataNodes, block replication, rack awareness and erasure coding, and work with HDFS from the command line.
YARN resource management
Describe how ResourceManager, NodeManagers and containers schedule distributed applications.
MapReduce programming
Write and run MapReduce jobs and understand the map, shuffle, sort and reduce phases.
Hive data warehousing
Create partitioned and bucketed tables, use Parquet and ORC and optimise HiveQL queries.
HBase fundamentals
Model row keys and column families for low-latency reads and writes on top of HDFS.
Spark on Hadoop
Submit Spark applications to YARN and know when to prefer Spark over MapReduce.

FAQs
Questions learners ask us
Q.Is Hadoop still relevant in 2026?
Greenfield projects usually choose cloud storage with Spark or a cloud warehouse, but Hadoop clusters are still running in many Indian banks, telecoms and large enterprises, and Hadoop concepts underpin modern data platforms. We teach both the platform and how it maps to cloud services.
Q.Is there a Hadoop certification exam?
There is no current exam tied to this course. The older vendor certification programmes have been reorganised or retired, so we do not promise an exam. Practical skills and a project are what employers check.
Q.Do I need Java?
No. Hive, Spark and the command-line tools cover most work. We show MapReduce in Java for understanding, but you can follow with basic programming knowledge.
Q.Will I learn Spark in this course?
You get an introduction to running Spark on YARN. For a deeper treatment, see our PySpark or Apache Spark and Scala courses.
Q.Do I need a powerful laptop?
A laptop with 8 GB RAM and a stable internet connection is enough because labs run on cloud-hosted machines.
Q.How is this different from Hadoop Administration?
This course is for developers and analysts who use the cluster. The administration course covers installing, securing, tuning and monitoring the cluster itself.
