About the course
What this course covers
Running a Hadoop cluster in production is a different job from writing jobs for it. An administrator has to size hardware, keep the NameNode healthy, make sure jobs get fair shares of resources, secure access to sensitive data, and recover when nodes fail. This course covers those responsibilities with labs on a multi-node cluster.
You will install the core services, configure HDFS and YARN, set up high availability for the NameNode and ResourceManager, and use the capacity scheduler to share a cluster across teams. Security sections cover Kerberos authentication, HDFS permissions and ACLs, encryption zones and the principles of centralised authorisation. You will also practise monitoring through metrics and logs, diagnosing slow jobs, balancing data, decommissioning nodes, snapshots, DistCp-based backups and rolling upgrades.
No external exam is part of this course. The skills carry over to cloud-managed big data services, which hide some of these tasks but still require the same understanding.

Q.Do I need Hadoop development knowledge first?
A basic understanding of HDFS and YARN is enough. If you are completely new, taking the Hadoop Certification Training first helps.
Q.Is there an official Hadoop administrator exam?
We do not tie this course to an external exam. The earlier vendor certification programmes for Hadoop administrators have been retired or changed, so we focus on practical skills.
Q.Which Linux distribution do we use?
Labs run on a common enterprise Linux distribution in cloud-hosted machines. The skills transfer to other distributions.
Q.Will it cover cloud-managed clusters?
We compare the on-premise tasks with what managed services take over, so you can plan migrations. The labs themselves are on a self-managed cluster.
Q.Is administration still a good career path?
On-premise Hadoop administration roles are fewer than before, but platform engineering, data reliability and cloud data platform roles use the same thinking. We are honest about the market in the first session.
Q.How much Linux do I need?
You should be comfortable with shell commands, services, file permissions and basic networking.
