About the course
What this course covers
The EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) applies to any organisation that processes the personal data of people in the European Union, wherever the organisation is based. For Indian IT services firms, BPOs, startups and global capability centres serving European customers, that makes it a business requirement rather than a legal curiosity.
This practical course takes you through the regulation's structure and key obligations: what counts as personal data, the principles of processing, lawful bases and consent, transparency, data subject rights, the roles of controller and processor, privacy by design, data protection impact assessments, breach notification, and the role of the Data Protection Officer. It also covers transfers outside the EU, including standard contractual clauses and adequacy, and the powers of supervisory authorities and the level of fines.
Training is organised around real tasks: building a record of processing activities, mapping data flows, running a DPIA, drafting a privacy notice, responding to an access request and handling a breach within 72 hours. A comparison with the Indian Digital Personal Data Protection Act helps you manage both regimes. The course is practical and does not lead to an external exam; for a formal certification, see our CIPP/E course.

FAQs
Questions learners ask us
Q.Does the GDPR apply to Indian companies?
Yes, if you offer goods or services to people in the EU or monitor their behaviour, or process data on behalf of someone who does.
Q.Is there an exam at the end?
No external exam. You receive a course completion confirmation. For a formal credential, the IAPP CIPP/E is the common choice.
Q.What are the maximum fines?
The GDPR allows fines of up to 20 million euros or 4% of worldwide annual turnover for the most serious infringements, whichever is higher.
Q.Do I need a legal background?
No. The course explains legal concepts in everyday language with practical examples.
Q.How is GDPR different from India's DPDP Act?
Both centre on consent and individual rights, but they differ in lawful bases, definitions, breach rules and penalties. We cover the key differences in the final module.
Q.Is a DPO mandatory?
Only in certain cases, such as public bodies or large-scale systematic monitoring or special category processing. We explain how to decide.
