About the course
What this course covers
Data protection is now part of almost every job that touches customer, employee or student information. This foundation course gives you the vocabulary, principles and habits to handle personal data responsibly, whether or not you work in a privacy team.
You will learn what personal and sensitive data are, why privacy matters to individuals and organisations, and how the main privacy principles turn into everyday practice: collecting only what is needed, telling people what you do, keeping data accurate and secure, and deleting it when it is no longer required. The course gives a clear overview of major regimes, including the EU GDPR, India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, and common sector rules, and shows how they overlap.
Practical sessions cover building a simple data inventory, writing a privacy notice, handling consent and rights requests, managing vendors, responding to a breach and keeping records. By the end, you will be able to contribute to a privacy programme confidently and know when to escalate questions to specialists. The course is a knowledge-based foundation with no external exam.
