About the course
What this course covers
The Certified Information Privacy Professional/Europe (CIPP/E) from the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) shows mastery of European data protection law, including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). It is a common requirement for privacy, legal and compliance roles in companies that handle European personal data.
This 16-hour live online course covers the sources of European data protection law, the structure of the GDPR, key definitions and principles, lawful bases, data subject rights, controller and processor duties, security and breach notification, international transfers, supervisory authorities and enforcement, and related instruments such as the ePrivacy rules. We also touch on developments such as the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and the EU AI Act where they affect privacy practice.
For learners in India, we include a short comparison with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act so you can work across both regimes. The course is exam-oriented but built around practical compliance decisions.

FAQs
Questions learners ask us
Q.Do I need a law degree to take CIPP/E?
No. Many candidates are IT, security or compliance professionals. Comfort with reading regulations is enough.
Q.Is CIPP/E useful if I only work with Indian data?
It is most valuable if you handle European data or work for firms with EU clients. Indian professionals also use it to understand global privacy standards that influenced the DPDP Act.
Q.How is the exam scored?
IAPP uses a scaled score from 100 to 500, and 300 is required to pass.
Q.How do I book the exam?
Buy the exam through the IAPP store, then schedule it with Pearson VUE at a test centre or through online proctoring.
Q.How long should I study after the 16-hour course?
Most learners need three to five weeks of self-study with the Body of Knowledge, the GDPR text and practice questions.
Q.How do I renew CIPP/E?
Earn 20 CPE credits every two years and keep your IAPP membership or maintenance fee up to date; check iapp.org for current policy.
Will the course teach Indian privacy law too?
