About the course
What this course covers
The Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) from EC-Council teaches the tools, techniques and mindset that real attackers use, so you can find weaknesses before they are exploited. Version 13 keeps the 20-module structure and adds AI-assisted techniques and defences to the established attack-lifecycle coverage.
This 40-hour live online course follows the CEH v13 modules, from footprinting and scanning through system hacking, malware, web applications, wireless, mobile, IoT and OT, cloud computing and cryptography. Every concept is paired with labs in an authorised sandbox so you practise safely and legally, and each module ends with mapping attacks to defensive controls and MITRE ATT&CK-style thinking.
The CEH knowledge exam is 125 multiple-choice questions in four hours. EC-Council also offers an optional CEH Practical (20 challenges in six hours) for those who want to demonstrate hands-on skill, and we explain how to prepare for both. All hacking techniques are taught strictly for authorised testing and defence.

FAQs
Questions learners ask us
Q.Do I need programming skills for CEH?
No. Basic scripting helps, but the course teaches tools and techniques at a conceptual and practical level without requiring development experience.
Q.Is CEH legal to learn?
Yes. Techniques are taught for authorised testing in controlled labs. Attacking systems without permission is illegal, and the course emphasises ethics and law.
Q.Do I need two years of experience?
EC-Council recommends two years of security experience. Attending official training satisfies the eligibility route; self-study candidates must apply and prove experience.
Q.What is the passing score?
EC-Council uses a cut score between 60% and 85% depending on the exam form, so there is no single fixed percentage.
Q.What is the difference between CEH and CEH Practical?
CEH is the 125-question knowledge exam. CEH Practical is an optional 6-hour lab exam with 20 challenges. Doing both leads to CEH Master.
Q.How do I renew?
Earn ECE credits during each three-year cycle and keep your EC-Council membership active; check eccouncil.org for the current requirements.
