About the course
What this course covers
Budgeting and forecasting turn strategy into numbers and give managers a way to track performance. Done well, they highlight risks early, support resource decisions and build accountability. Done poorly, they become annual rituals that are out of date by the second month.
This course shows how to design and run a practical planning process. You will learn how to link strategy to targets, build operating, capital, cash and master budgets, choose between budgeting approaches, and use driver-based models so that plans update quickly when assumptions change. A significant section covers forecasting methods, from simple moving averages and trend lines to seasonality, regression and scenario-based forecasts, and how to judge forecast accuracy.
You will practise variance analysis, flexing budgets, root-cause investigation and management commentary, and learn to present budgets and forecasts clearly to executives. Excel exercises use realistic company data. The course has no external exam and is useful for finance, operations and business unit managers who prepare or review plans.
